There are few moments in life that are more difficult than the passing of a loved one. No matter if this was expected or not, and no matter the circumstances, the sense of loss can seem immense, and the outlook rather grim.
Yet, as Catholics, funerals are times of hope. As we celebrate a funeral liturgy, it is a moment to thank God for the gift of life, to entrust a loved one’s soul to God, and to pray for our healing as well. This is not a “celebration of life” as many groups or even denominations will often suggest. Rather, what this is to us is a moment where we remember the Lord’s promise of mercy- that all who have died in Christ will live with Him forever in the kingdom of Heaven.
In St. Lawrence Parish, we seek to be a community of support especially during these times. When it comes to planning a funeral in advance, planning after death, the funeral itself, or even a luncheon afterwards, we are there for our parish family members, even long after the funeral has taken place.
